FCC GROL License
The General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) is an FCC license required for technicians who adjust, maintain, or repair BDA equipment. It demonstrates competency in radio frequency fundamentals and FCC regulations.
Requirements
- Pass FCC Element 1 (Marine Radio Operator) exam
- Pass FCC Element 3 (General Radiotelephone) exam
- No prerequisites — open to all applicants
- Valid for lifetime (no renewal required)
Exam Info
Both Element 1 and Element 3 exams are multiple choice. Element 1 has 24 questions; Element 3 has 100 questions. Passing score is 75% for both. Exams are administered by Commercial Operator License Examination Managers (COLEMs).
