Definition

The BDA (Bi-Directional Amplifier) is the heart of an ERRCS. It amplifies signals in both directions: capturing weak signals from outdoor public safety infrastructure and boosting them for distribution inside the building (downlink), while also amplifying signals from portable radios inside the building for transmission back to outdoor infrastructure (uplink). BDAs must be FCC-registered and are designed specifically for public safety frequencies.
